In the 70's, kids were grouped as either the Sharpies, the Rockers, the Mods, the Bodgies, or the Surfie. In Torquay, there were only Surfers. When Torquay surf wasn't pumping, they would head over to Bells Beach. Two of these young surfers started the Torquay-based company that would become an international brand: Ripcurl.
